Fosdem, State of Open Con and more

Are you going to be at Fosdem or State of Open Con? If so, come to my talks, and reach out if you’d like to get together.

At Fosdem I’ll be talking about project websites that don’t suck. I’ll be talking about content… I realized after I had written the abstract that some people think about websites and think about design, whereas I think about websites and think about words. Anyway, even with an awesome design you can completely mess up the content (and a lot of projects do), and I’ll be talking about how to not do that.

The Fosdem audience is really keen on pretty tactical topics, and the thing about websites, or homepages to be specific, is that they are a direct reflection of the project’s positioning. If you’ve changed your positioning, the first thing you should do is change your homepage (and your sales pitch, but that doesn’t apply here). So anyway, that’s why I’m doing the talk.

At State of Open Con, I’m doing a talk on Open Source Companies 101. It’s actually the first talk in the entrepreneurship track, and my goal is to do some ‘definitions.’ It’s not going to be super practical, to be honest, but I’m hoping it provides a foundation for people to understand the rest of the conference talks on building open source companies.

See you then!!
