Whether we’re doing a positioning workshop or an open source strategy workshop for closed-source companies, you can do it either as a virtual workshop or an in-person workshop.

I strongly encourage you to do it in person. Yes, this will add cost. Yes, this means you have to spend a few days away from your family, and so do the rest of leadership team (unless you bring your family along, which is what I do when I travel). But you will get better focus, better team alignment and better results.

I do a lot of virtual workshops, and they are convenient. But no one, include me, is as focused during the workshop as during an in-person workshop. And just like people go to conferences for the hallway track, even an 7-person workshop has a hallway track and it can be important for the workshop outcome.

If you want to do a positioning / open source strategy offsite, I’ll take care of the conference room, the lunch on both days and of booking everyone’s hotels. You have to handle the plane or train tix, but I’ll handle the rest.
